Final Fantasy 7 split into several segments

Cult classic Final Fantasy 7 is set for a next gen remake (which I’m sure you already know about) and the game is set to be split into multiple installments as it’s reported to be too big for a single game volume

Yoshinori Kitase & director Tetsuya Nomura explained their reasoning as to why they are releasing the title as multiple parts in a recent Square Enix press release

“It’s going to be multi-part because when we considered fully remaking Final Fantasy 7 in PS4 quality, and as we look over much of it, we estimated the volume to be beyond what could be fit in one entry,” Nomura explained.

With the game being divided, this have the potential to allow the developers to include the content without any sacrifices. Some elements are set to be lost but this makes up with the exploration of areas such as the massive city of Midgar.

A representative for Square Enix later confirmed to Polygon that

“Each entry will have its own unique story. As a gaming experience, each entry will have the volume of content equal to a full-sized game.”

There isn’t any news regarding prices and dates as of yet but Nomura and Kitase did mention that the CyberConnect2 studio are to aid in assistance with the development alongside Sqaure Enix.  CyberConnect2 are the team behind side games such as Final Fantasy 7 G-Bike

As the trailer clearly reveals, the combat system is not going to be a “turn based combat” much like the original. Instead Nomura’s Kingdom Hearts combat system is set to be the stepping stone which the gameplay mechanics will revolve around. This includes the ability to be able to control characters in combat other than Cloud

Kitase went on further to reveal that Final Fantasy 7 Remake is being developed using the Unreal Engine 4. We guess it’s now just a waiting game to find out when we’ll get our hands on this potential piece of nostalgic gold.

If you haven’t had a chance to see the trailer yet, then be sure to check it out here!
